| perfect
for spending time meandering and soaking up the peace
and tranquility of the village.
Today you will find local shops and
restaurants in the the old houses and cellars rather
than the contraband tobacco and brandy that they once
held, for despite its picture box appearance,
the village was once a centre for smuggling on the
South Cornish coast. Evidence of this can be seen
in the smuggling museum that is located on the harbour
side. Information about the museum can be found Here.
The village has a wide range of shops ranging from
normal food stores and paper shop through bakeries
and Post Office to cloths shops, a chocolatier and
even a shop selling cuckoo clocks.
There are 7 public houses in the village
or Here
for more information), many of which serve food. In
addition there are many restaurants in the village
serving a wide variety of good food (click Here
or Here
for information) at most times of the day or night.
There are many other interesting sights
to see around the village, including some beautiful
cliff top walks (Looe is 5 miles one way and Fowey
is 9 miles the other), fishing
and boat trips from the harbour, the Polperro
Arts Foundation on the harbour, the
Polperro Fisherman's Choir who perform at the
harbour in the summer months and many other events
that take place in the village throughout the year
- details can be found here.
